Shamu, real name Panat Bodhidatta, is one of Wilding Golf’s rising junior stars. He took a few moments to talk to us about playing golf and learning with Shane Wilding at the Wilding Golf Performance Centers. He played tennis before he started playing golf but at the request of his father, he decided to follow in his brother’s footsteps and play golf 4 years ago.

“If I compare the differences between golf and tennis, I can say that in tennis we have to compete against an opponent. However, on the golf course we have to compete with ourselves. Tennis is a sport that requires strength while golf is more mental.”

“After trying both sports, I feel that I like golf more because golf it is fun and more challenging on the course. I have to plan how to hit each shot and how to play the next shot.”

“My father pushes me a lot about how to improve my swing how to improve my golf game and it always cheers me up. I appreciate when my father has time for golf.”

“My golf idol is Lee Westwood. He hits the driver so far and is the best player in the game.”

During the first year that I played, my driving was very poor, not where it should be. Even three years later, it still was not good enough. I could only hit 230 yards with a driver, which was very short compared to golfers my age. So my father took me to Mr. Shane Wilding at Wilding Golf Performance Centers, a well-known indoor golf center in Asia.

Shane started teaching me different techniques to improve my driving. He taught me how to use golf techniques and many other things. My driving improved to 300 yards!”

Shane knows how to change and find your suitable swing angles. His teaching is not based on any famous pros, but is tailored to suit your individual body and golf swing. Now I work with Shane 6 days a week and join him on the golf course to help me develop my distance even more.

The golf simulator technology at Wilding Golf has assisted my training and practice. I can see my real distance and I can control my swing to create a stable shot. Also I can video capture my swing and work to change it immediately if I am not satisfied with how it looks or feels.

After lessons with Wilding Golf, Shamu said his driving improved dramatically. “I was picked to play in a junior championship golf tournament in the US Kids IFS and I won in the final round last year. The tournament requires points from 5 courses. The final round was the most impressive. At the final hole, I had to do a putting shot from about 2 flag far. If I missed it, I would have dropped down to playoff position, but I made it! It was an exciting moment.”

I have three goals in the short-term: First is a good swing and hit the target. Second would be a top ten in the Junior rankings. And third is to tour as a Pro. I want to play in The Masters Golf Tournament.

Playing for Harrow International School, Kesaree Rojanapeansatith (Pearl) age 13, and a 4-year Wilding Golf student, won the overall trophy for the Federation of British International Schools in Southeast Asia and East Asia (FOBISSEA) Student Golf Tournament at Empire Golf and Country Club in Brunei recently.

Pearl also won third place at the Junior World Golf Tournament 2011 in San Diego, USA – her greatest achievement to date.

Pearl’s is enjoying continued success since she started competing when she was 7 years old. Her inspiration comes from her idol – LPGA Golf Professional ‘Yani Tseng.’

Pearl started practicing at Wilding Golf Performance Centers 4 years ago. She says that Wilding Golf Simulator technology helps her improve her skills significantly. With the advanced Simulator technology, she understands her weaknesses and strengths using the swing analysis software. Combining the technology with coaching from Wilding Golf Instructor Matt Wiltshire (image below), Pearl’s golf game is rapidly improving.

Wilding Golf students recently joined their Instructor Ray Russell on a weekend golf outing at the Burapha Golf Club.

Firstly, special thanks to Mike at the Burapha Golf Club for assisting with the green fee arrangements for the group. The golf course was in excellent condition, and with the small exception of a brief rain shower on hole 17 on day 2, the weather was exceptional.

The first day was played over the A and C 9′s while the second day was played over courses B and D. The variations meant that the golfers had the pleasure of playing a different course each day.

Special mention to Cecilia – it was her second time playing on a golf course and first time in an individual format. Thank you to the ladies on Saturday (Khun Por, Khun Pavadee and Khun Orchid) for assisting each other and Cecilia around the course. I know from the amount of laughing and giggling that you all had a great game and enjoyed the day.

Thanks again to all involved. I know some played well and others had some trouble, but hopefully everyone gained some good tips both on the course and during the putting and chipping practice prior to tee off on Saturday.

Ratchanon Chantananuwat (T.K.) 4 years and 10 months old, and a student of Wilding Golf Performance Centers in Bangkok, Thailand set a new International Sport Federation (ISF) record as the youngest golfer to make a hole-in-one at the Singha – ISF Junior Par 3 Open Tournament.

T.K. shot the hole-in-one from a tee shot at the 84th yard, 6th hole, Par 3 at the Bangplee Golf Course in Thailand. His perfect drive created an exciting moment for the other golfers and tournament audience.

T.K. began playing golf when he was only 3 years old and is supported by his dad, Khun Tara Chantananuwat. T.K. has shown great improvement since taking serious golf lessons with Wilding Golf Instructor Matthew Wiltshire. Khun Tara said that T.K. “showed obvious development and improvement after only 5 or 6 lessons with Wilding Golf Instructor Matthew.”

As long as T.K. enjoys playing golf, Khun Tara will keep supporting him as far as he can go. We wish T.K. continued success in the future! Congratulations T.K.! We are very proud of you!
